Now you get it... maybe

I was watching a comedian last night and he said something that to me, was hilarious and spot on.

"I'm just really not into social networking. It's changing all the time. First you had MySpace and got your first "collection" of friends, which was like vinyl. Then you had Facebook and you had to upgrade all over again like CDs. Now there is Twitter, which is like going digital. It's social networking's iTunes."

Now do you see where I am coming from?

ACK!!!

Oh, PUH-LEEEZE! Brett Favre, really?!? Sorry Vikings fans, but kiss your season goodbye! I read a couple of days ago that Brett was in talks with the Vikings, but it was mostly via the rumor mill, so I laughed it off. "He can't be that stupid!" Brett will not lead any more teams to a championship. His ship sailed a long time ago. He just can't accept it. So, here's how I think the season will go in Viking-land: Brett will come out red hot. It'll give everyone false hope. Then, as in seasons past, he'll fade and disappoint. (or his body will revolt and say "you're 40 years old... why are you still here?!". Cue the ambulance siren) He'll announce retirement after pulling off a near comeback, but falling just short of playoffs. He'll blame his teammates, coaches, his dog, Congress... anyone he can think of. Then about a month or two before opening kick off 2010, he'll comeback, AGAIN. In the mean time, the offensive side of MN will struggle with a new QB, cuz I think Jackson and Rosenfels are gonna say screw MN and take off. I feel for you Vikings fans. This is horrible news for you. I know many loyal fans, family, esp. I truly am sorry. How can anyone like this Favre character. ACK! I only hope next year, he stays away from my '9ers as they have QB problems, too. Now, I am really of fan of Donovan McNabb. He has done the opposite of Favre (and why I started disliking him in the first place). He said it will be his role to mentor Michael Vick. Good for you, McNabb. You're already light years ahead of this doofus, Favre!

3 states, 2000+ miles, 2 hotel stays, gallons of coffee= a great vacation

Whew! A fast week, lots of ground covered, and caught up with several important people along the way. Aria and I started out August 1 to Dillon, MT. We spent the night there on our way down to see my Gramma in Twin Falls, ID. Montana's first territorial capital and very well preserved ghost town, Bannack, is just a half hour away from Dillon. Being the mining history/ghost town fanatic I am, I had to go. My mother and father-in-law also happened to be RVing in the area, so Debbie came along with. Many of the buildings are standing still, and were in pretty good shape structurally. It was fun walking on the boardwalk, imagining life back in the early 1900's here. Some of my favorite shots are below.

I love the glass in this church!

Beautiful bar! Drinks on Debbie:)

Mead Motel... the inside was impressive. Grand staircase, nearly floor to ceiling windows, and the over sized kitchen oven even creaked and groaned for us! Nice touch!

Aria in our hotel room that evening in Dillon. Get some sleep Pookie; more driving tomorrow!

We arrived in Twin Falls on Aug. 2. We spent the next 2 days with my Gramma. Aunt Ardele also was there the 2nd day. I heard lots of stories of my dad growing up, enjoyed old family pix, and just hung out as Aria would say. I am so glad we were able to see her. I wasn't able to be around my relatives very much as a kid (cuz we lived far away from them) so it is good to have that family connection with her. Plus, Gramma has the funniest personality to me. It means a lot to me for Aria to have some kind of memory of her great gramma and get to know her too. Love you, Gramma!

Aug. 4, we drove to Green River WY to visit a very good friend of mine, Amy. She has 2 kids I had never met and I was anxious to meet them. Amy also is a gifted photographer, so I thought I'd have her get some shots of Aria. Her kids are delightful! We hung out that afternoon in a local park. Green River is a neat little town and the best part, other than seeing Amy, was the tunnel entering the town. I totally was having a Batman moment and was wishing I could climb the wall and drive on the ceiling of it! Way cool! Aria wasn't the most cooperative subject, but Amy got some pix of Aria that were just amazing. Most important, I was able to catch up with her and spend quality time with her family. While a bit more out of the way than I had thought, I'd make this stop over and over again. A worth while detour for sure!

Josiah and Gennie. I wanted to scoop them up and take them home with me! :)

Gennie and Aria inspecting some of Amy's pix.

After the afternoon in Green River, I planned to drive to Billings that evening to visit with Paul and the rest of the family, since he just got home from Iraq. I drove to Casper, WY and got lost! So about 10pm and with the encouragement of Tony, we stayed over night in Casper. Eastern WY makes eastern Montana look like paradise. Once you get to the Montana/Wyoming border, just north of Sheridan WY, the landscape changes drastically and is quite lovely. Then the final stop in Billings for 2 days. Paul is glad to be home. Mom and Dad had just gotten home from a trip to Minnesota to see the Emmel clan. It was so good to see Paul and the rest. Big news from trip is Mom chopped off her hair for locks of love. She now sports a bob-like cut and it is cute! It's big news cuz the last time Mom cut her hair significantly is when Paul was a baby. Then was home in Joplin Aug. 8. Aria was a great road companion and traveled great! Thanks goodness we put the miles on the Cobama-mobile and not my car! (more on the Cobama car later). I over packed, but what else is new.

So how was the trip, Pookie?

Yah, thumbs up for me too!

one month away..

One month from today has 2 events that are important to me. 1) NFL opening kick-off
2) I will be 30. I am so happy that football season is here! I watched the pre-season opener last night between the Titans and Bills. I am surprised to say I missed John Madden. But Cris Collinsworth as a replacement?! I enjoyed the few minutes Al Michaels interviewed Tony Dungy way more. Why couldn't Tony be replacing Madden? Collinsworth is okay next to Bob Costas in the studio, but not as a sportscaster. Remember Collinsworth and Bryant Gumble doing play-by-play together for the NFL network? Not so good. Perhaps he will get better with time, but Collinsworth has some major humility issues to deal with before he deserves to fill Madden's shoes. (if you missed the half time tribute to Madden during the game you may have no idea of what I'm talking about. I'll sum up... Collinsworth thinks he's the best sportscaster after Madden, so it's perfect fit, duh!) Anywayyyy, so the season officially kicks off September 10... YAY!! Marcia is too funny, cuz she thought she was giving me new info. when she told me that. The season opener falls more on my birthday than not. I can't think of a better way to celebrate than by watching some football! I am not depressed, or making lists of things to do before 3-day (even if I did, one month is not long enough time). I accept that everyone, including me, gets older. I accept that time flies by, but there is nothing I can do about it. I accept that even tho I will be 30, I'll always want to be 17 (that was a very good year for me:)). I also accept that maybe a month or two after turning 30, I may hate my age and bemoan the fact to whoever will listen. But for now, it is okay to be turning 30! I do not want any surprises, but I am a milestone person. For Tony's 30th, for my parents 30th anniversary, for our 10th anniversary, some friends who have recently turned 30...it was a big deal! I'm just sayin'... So in summary, Football, good. Birthdays, good. Getting older, acceptable. No surprises, but honey, you can spoil me and I can TAKE IT!!!
