Week 7 follow up, Week 8 picks & Election Day is around the corner!

Okay, who else thinks this was the 2nd highest scoring weekend for the NFL in the past decade due to the boot-to-the-neck stance the NFL took to defensive players last week? Did anyone watch some of the replays of some of those games? Steelers' Harrison opted out of several potential tackles to avoid any more serious fines. It was obvious they were not playing at a %100 level. It made me a bit sad. And where were the Broncos? Did they know they were playing the RAIDERS in a game called FOOTBALL?! What a complete embarrassment for any Bronco Fan. And the Cowgirls, well, they are really coming thru for me! Thanks, 'girls for a great season!

Dolphins @ Bengals: I'm going with the Bengals for this game. They need to crank things up a notch (we're almost to mid season!) and what better way to do that than at home against a 3-3 lackluster Dolphins team. Bengals by 8.

Broncos @ 49ers: I'll say it again. What an embarrassing game last week for the Broncos! Now, should I apply my theory that since the '9ers beat the Raiders, they can beat the Broncos too? Sure will and am! Maybe won't be the scoring fest, but I'll give them a win by...umm... 21.

Buccaneers @ Cardinals: The Bucs are 4-2. Really?! The Dark Horse of the League? They've been playing well and I look for that to continue. Bucs by 10.

Seahawks @ Raiders: Was last week a fluke or no? We shall see. Seahawks also have a surprising 4-2 record. I think they are playing well enough even to win with Raider Nation looking on. Seahawks by 12.

Steelers @ Saints: What is up with the Saints? They couldn't pull off a win against the Browns! That is something. Steelers were good while Ben sat on the sidelines thinking about how to act like a grown-up. Now that Big Ben is back, they look, admittedly, pretty good. Steelers need to capitalize on the Saints downward spiral. Steelers by 6.

Texans @ Colts: Both teams at 4-2 records. Last meeting saw the Texans win. Another win for the Texans could cement their dominance in that division if they win again on Monday night. But I don't see it. The Colts are at home and are improving weekly. Colts by 9.

That's right, I look for defense to loosen up a bit and start playing all out which should result in lower scoring games. We'll see. Happy Week 8!

So now that that is out of the way, Election Day is Tuesday, November 2. Please vote. I've already decided how I am going to vote on every nominee/initiative on the ballot. Have you done your homework? Do you know what each candidate brings to the table, what issues are on the ballot, how you feel about them and how they may affect you? It's so important to be educated when you go to the polling place. Whether you believe it or not, these issues and people could affect you in one way or another and the only way to have a say is to vote!

And since this is my blog, I'm going to voice my opinions loud and proud:
Go Conservative Republicans and Go Neal Eveland for Liberty County Justice of the Peace!!

Week 6 follow up and week 7 picks

So the games I waivered on I got wrong... typical. But it was still a good weekend: 49ers won (finally!) and Cowgirls lost (awesome!). I don't know if I should love the fact that the '9ers and 'girls have the same record, but for me, the 'girls having this record is a sacrifice I'm willing to live with. The big news from last weekend was the "violent" hits as in helmet to helmet contact. I know with recent revelations tying head injuries to dementia has people hyper-sensitive to this issue, but come on! It's a contact sport. Sheesh, why don't we just go to two-hand touch or flag football. We're becoming weenies as a society. The problem lies, I think, in what defines flagrant foul from a wrong hit at the wrong time foul. Everyone comes out of those plays claiming innocence. It's a tough call, most of the time. If they're competitive as me, and I'm sure they are, they are going 110% for a hard hit. It's what they train for. I'm not advocating hits that KO the opponent, but I don't want to watch girlie-man football. I hate to go here, but it's like joining the military; military voluntarily join with the condition of knowing they may have to go to war. Football players sign up with the possibility of getting concussions. Let them play the game, try to protect the players but understand that injuries come with the game. And if one does get hurt, follow the doctor's orders and don't fight with your coach when they pull you out for safety (Jason "ding-bat" Whitten)!

On to week 7. I wanted to do something a little different. The radio station out of Shelby (frankly the best in the region as far as I'm concerned) does a weekly segment call "beat the predictor". I was gonna compare notes with the "predictor" but was at work and was helping customers rather than taking notes during the segment (where's my employee of the week award?! I kid, I kid!). Maybe next time?

Eagles @ Titans: A good game! Both teams are 4-2 and are having pretty good years. Who is healthy for this game may determine the outcome. Desean Jackson is out with his concussion, Michael Vick is most likely still out, tho Kolb is doing just fine as QB, and Vince Young is battling both a knee and ankle sprain, to name a few key injuries. I like that the Titans are home and think they'll pull off a win in a close game. Titans by 3.

Jaguars @ Chiefs: Who else is surprised at these teams records? Chiefs have some spunk this year and I think they can easily win at home by 10.

Patriots @ Chargers: So this is an easy call in my book. Chargers are at a dismal 2-4. Patriots are 4-1, tho that record doesn't seem right. Pats aren't as stellar as in years past, but they will be better than the Chargers. Pats by 9.

Raiders @ Denver: Thank you, Raider Nation, for the much needed W in the '9ers column last week! Thank you, thank you! Broncos are doing okay, but not as well as I thought they could have, esp. after last year. But they will definitely win this one at home. Broncos by 12.

Vikings @ Packers: I just can't help but gloat: I was so right about Brett! And wasn't it Randy Moss who simulated mooning the Packer crowd after scoring a touchdown in a wild-card victory Jan. 9, 2005? Oh, I think the Packers are chomping at the bit for this game! There isn't quite the media frenzy over this one like last year's meeting, but I believe the Packers can win this one. The Vikings have too much trouble on and off the field to beat the Pack this year. It should be a good close game, but I pick the Packers by 6.

Giants @ Cowgirls: I love this so much, I'm gonna put it in bold and italics: Cowgirls are 1-4!!!! How's that Super Bowl journey working out for you? 'bout the same as the Democrat strategy this election season: pathetic!! Giants will out throw, out run, out kick, out score, out play the Cowgirls on all levels. And, just in case you're wondering, Wade Phillips isn't the problem. Tony "overrated" Romo is the problem in Dallas. Giants by 14.

Happy Week 7 and happy opening deer/elk season weekend too! Stay safe and good luck!

Week 5 follow up (bittersweet), Week 6 picks and a pic!

I'd love to be able to brag about my 5-1 record for week 5, but my "1" comes from my 49ers. Ugh. Puh-leeeze!!! Get rid of Alex Smith NOW! He's had 6 years to figure out how to play like a pro. SIX YEARS!! Enough. He is making a team who really should be 3-2 actually be 0-5. Singletary is fine, he just needs a new QB. And who else is loving the downward spiral death-spin than is the Cowgirls and Vikings organizations? Validation is such a wonderful feeling!

Ravens @ Patriots: I am still a bit conflicted on this one... I am on 3 games I picked for Week 6. In what stats I've been paying attention to and such, these games could go either way. I like the Ravens. I think their defense has been great. This is a home game for the Pats, so that is definitely in their favor. Is it just me or has ever since Tom Brady got married, has his ability to play football seem off? I've read more about his stupid haircut and is his wife's possible cheating than his actual stats. Weird. Anyway, I'm gonna go with Ravens by 4.

Seahawks @ Bears: Another game I'm conflicted on. Bears are 4-1. Seahawks are 2-2. One of the Seahawks loss came to the Rams *snort*. Bears loss came to the Giants, a worthy adversary. Bears don't scream "Super Bowl contenders" to me. The Seahawks will be lucky to make playoffs. Bears are at home, so I'll give them the win by 9.

Jets @ Broncos: The other game I'm torn on. Could go either way in my book. Yes, the Jets have a better record at 4-1, but their wins were by thismuch. Broncos are 2-3. I know, I know; I said I'd take the Jets more seriously if they won a few weeks back. I do think they are a good team, but here's the deal: I just can't get behind a team that frankly has a non-existent moral compass. If the Jets organization is making more headlines for their bimbo reporters and how they are treated than how good a team they are, they get no pat on the back from me. Call me old fashioned, but a good team earns respect both on the field and off the field. Quit hiring wannabe porn star "reporters" for starters, then we'll talk. Yes, I've raised the bar. Just cuz you think a pretty (slutty) girl will draw in a larger crowd doesn't make you fool-proof. It's working out to be quite the opposite. Broncos by 6.

Cowgirls @ Vikings: AKA Loser Bowl!! But my heart is sad... who do I want to see lose MORE?! Well, I was right about Brett and he put on quite a show last week against the Jets. His tendinitis in his throwing arms may be real, but I thought it was weird that he'd only grab at it when something went wrong. If they scored or had a big play, there was no grabbing the elbow. I think Jimmy Johnson has him pegged: A drama queen (is it strange this comes from Jimmy, tho?). It's a great title! Not Brett the king, it's Brett the Queen!! But enough of Brett. The Cowgirls are hands down my most despised team in the NFL and if weren't for Brett, I may actually like the Vikings. (Sorry Grandpa E.) I never, ever, EVER cheer for the Cowgirls. And Tony Romo is 100% over rated. He's borderline Alex Smith over rated. Vikings by 3.

Colt @ Redskins: Both these teams are 3-2. It believe the Colts are the better team here, I just need some proof this week that they think that. They have some many weapons offensively and defensively. They play kinda half-heartedly, no rhythm, going thru the motions... it's not exciting. Is it from reeling still from the Super Bowl? If they get their act together, they are the teams to beat this year, if not... it's anyone's game to win. Colts by 12.

Titans @ Jaguars: These teams are also 3-2. Surprising, no? Esp. the Jags. The Titans have been fun to watch. I really like Jeff Fisher. I think the Titans have a more well rounded team. I look for this game to be a blowout. Titans by 17.

I got my antelope opening day! I believe this is my first antelope ever. We started out at about 7:30 and this pic was taken around 10:30. There are antelope everywhere around here! It's ridiculous how many we saw. This one was in a small group of 5 other bucks. He was the biggest as far as we could tell. And, I have meat in the freezer... always good! Aria was quite the helper too!

Week 4 follow up, Week 5 picks and Annie, get yer gun!

Okay, 3-3 again this week on my picks. If I may be completely honest, I second guessed my picks on both the Broncos/Titans and Ravens/Steelers games. I didn't go with my gut, so I deserve my 50%. Well see how Week 5 fares!

Packers @ Redskins: I am of the opinion that the Redskins are improving week by week. They really looked pretty good last Sunday (good for Donovan!). I wonder if the game may have been closer had Vick not got hurt so early on... The Packers are good, but need some reining in the the penalty department. It may be their downfall in the long run. Redskins by 9.

Chiefs @ Colts: What happened last week to the Colts?! It has been a weird 4 weeks for sure. Teams that should've been 4-0 are 2-2. Teams that appeared weak are undefeated. Take this match up. The Chiefs (the Chiefs!!) are 3-0 at the moment. Colts dropped 2-2 last Sunday in a head scratcher of a loss. I think Herm Edwards needs some credit given for building a team like this up in Kansas City before getting the boot. Rebuilding takes time, people! I am still not 100% convinced the Chiefs are the real deal tho. Colts by 12.

Titans @ Cowgirls: Wasn't last week nice? No Cowgirl coverage, no what is happening to the Cowgirls sniffling. I liked it. But byes are for a week only, so here we go again. I really think the Titans might have won last week, but it was a rookie (Montanan) mistake that eventually cost them the game. But live and learn, Titans should pull off a win here by 6.

Chargers @ Raiders: The only division game I (randomly) picked for this week. Did you know both these teams black out a lot of their games for TV due to low attendance at home games? I just found that out. Crazy. But, considering how lack-luster they both are, it isn't really all that surprising. I'm rooting for the Raiders just cuz I don't like Philip Rivers, but honestly, I too, share the homecrowd's "meh" feeling towards them. Raiders by 3.

Eagles @ 49ers: Oh, my poor '9ers. I expect them to play well, as they seen to pull out good games against tough opponents. The game against the Falcons last week was truly a heart breaker! I hope they work on their turn-over issues. They really need a win... 0-4 looks bad no matter how close the games were. It's kinda fun in our house when these 2 teams play; me being a 49ers fan and Tony an Eagles fan. Hopefully, I get some bragging rights this week! '9ers by 4.

Vikings @ Jets: Where to start... Okay, I'll go there! WHO WAS RIGHT ABOUT BRETT??!! That's right. I knew he was a jerk. And now he's an old jerk. He really needed that week off to rest, but will it be enough? And Randy Moss?! Randy freakin' Moss?! Really Minnesota fans, sorry, but I don't know what your organization is doing to you poor people. Did we already forget how much Randy wanted to get out of Viking-land? How he treated his teammates, the home crowd? Perhaps he's straightened out a bit, but really, Vikes look nothing but desperate. And another Jets controversy? And it includes Brett?! This is too much, folks! So the Jets have harassment issues. Let's just not send any more women into man-pig Jets territory over there; apparently most those people haven't matured past high school yet. As for the game? Well, Jets will win by 10. Can't wait for Monday night drama to unfold!:)

Tomorrow begins (official) hunting season (sorry bow-hunters... this chic uses a gun!) for antelope and bird season. Deer/elk season is looming around the corner. I hope to fill my tag (and freezer) starting tomorrow, but we'll see. My new Howa 30-06 is sighted in and ready to go! This gun is nice and I'm really excited to see how we do. Please be good to the land and landowners; close your gates, pick up your trash, and thank your landowners so we can keep this privilege going for years to come. Happy and SAFE hunting to everyone tomorrow and in the coming weeks.
